ABA therapy
Individualized, evidence-based Applied Behavior Analysis delivered where your family needs it most.
What Is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis has the largest research base of any behavioral intervention for autism, and is recognised as an evidence-based practice by the American Academy of Pediatrics. What the evidence says — and what the criticism says.
ABA therapy uses scientifically validated techniques to understand and improve behavior. Our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) design individualized treatment plans that target communication, social skills, daily living skills, and behavior reduction — all based on each client's unique strengths and needs.
At the American Institute of Mental Health, our ABA programs are delivered by skilled Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) under the direct supervision of BCBAs. Every session is data-driven, ensuring measurable progress and continuous refinement of each treatment plan.

What to Expect
From your first call to ongoing progress, here's how the ABA therapy process works at American Institute of Mental Health.
Initial Contact & Insurance Verification
Call us or fill out our contact form. We'll verify your insurance benefits and explain your coverage for ABA services. Our intake team will gather basic information and answer any questions you have.
Comprehensive Assessment
A BCBA conducts a thorough initial assessment, including a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), to understand your child's skills, challenges, and goals. This assessment informs the individualized treatment plan.
Treatment Plan Development
Based on the assessment, your BCBA creates a customized treatment plan with specific, measurable goals. We'll review this plan with you and make sure it aligns with your family's priorities and values.
Therapy Sessions Begin
Your assigned RBT begins working with your child on the goals outlined in the treatment plan. Sessions are typically delivered multiple times per week, and the BCBA provides ongoing supervision and adjustments.
Ongoing Progress Monitoring
We collect data every session and review progress regularly. Treatment plans are updated as your child grows and achieves goals. Parent training sessions ensure skills carry over beyond therapy hours.
Who Qualifies for ABA Therapy?
ABA therapy is available for individuals of all ages diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Early Intervention (Ages 2–5)
The earlier ABA begins, the greater the impact. Early intervention focuses on foundational skills like communication, play, and social engagement during the most critical developmental window.
Children (Ages 6–12)
School-age ABA programs focus on academic support, social skills with peers, behavior management, and building independence in daily routines at home and school.
Teens & Adults (13+)
ABA for teens and adults targets vocational skills, community integration, self-advocacy, relationship building, and independent living — preparing for life beyond school.
Requirements for ABA Services
- A diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) from a qualified provider
- A prescription or referral for ABA therapy from a physician
- Active insurance coverage (Medicaid, commercial plans, or self-pay)
- Willingness to participate in parent/caregiver training
Insurance & Payment
Coverage depends on your specific plan. Our directory shows exactly where AIMH stands with each payer — contracted, in credentialing, or not participating — and what each of those means for your family.
Your plan
Florida Medicaid covers ABA for children with a documented diagnosis and medical necessity, and AIMH is an approved provider. For every other plan, the status is published and kept current in one place: see where AIMH stands with your plan.
